What this is
Boston Basecamp is a newsletter for families who want to get outside together while living in and around Boston.
I share personal recommendations on trails, parks, and outdoor experiences within easy reach of the city. You’ll find practical guides for getting your family into nature: where to go, what to bring, and how to make it fun with kids in tow. I also share tips for parents to sneak in solo outdoor time such as early morning rides or quick post-work runs to help recharge.
What you’ll get
Every other Sunday, you’ll receive posts highlighting things like:
Seasonal guides to Greater Boston’s best family-friendly trails, swimming holes, and outdoor spots
Micro-adventures within an hour of Boston, plus the occasional day trip or weekend away when it’s worth the drive
Gear recommendations that work for real families (no ads, no affiliate links, no sponsored posts)
Practical tips for outdoor parenting (winter layering, first camping trips, rainy day alternatives)
Local insights on parking, food stops, and other kid-friendly options nearby
Who I am
I’m Doug Milvaney, a parent of two young children living in Greater Boston. I’ve spent 13 years exploring New England trails, cycling routes, and parks: first solo or with my wife, now often with one or two kids in tow.

I started Boston Basecamp to help other parents know which playgrounds are a hit, which trails are balance bike-friendly, and which cafe has the best almond croissant for the inevitable snack break.
